A land of extremes

Less than 48 hours after exams ended, two friends and I boarded a plane from Milan to Cusco, Peru. After a long journey of 37 hours (including a 7 hour layover in Miami Airport) we finally arrived in the old capital of the Incan empire. At an elevation of 3,400 m or 11,200 ft, the weather was quite warm during the day due to the increased proximity of the sun- yet gradually grew colder as the sun disappeared. Our first night was spent at the backpacker mecca, Pariwana hostel. The next day, we woke up rather early to embark on our long anticipated 4 day/3 night Inca Trail hike.
